The power house is the pulse of the any institution and the flawless working of the department at KVV ensure round the clock electricity for the whole campus. A power house receives about 11 KV HT supply and the same is then distributed throughout the campus. The Power House also has 1600 KVA capacity of generator back up in an unlikely event of power failure from the grid.

Powerhouse is also at the forefront of using unconventional energy sources on campus. Currently 900 KVA energy is generated using solar power.

APFC panel, 148 HP Internal VRV system, Hybrid solar system of 35 KW output are some other energy conservation measures implemented on campus.

Apart from this the power house also looks at installations, repairs and maintenance of various electrical equipment, air conditioners and telephone lines on the campus. The department also provides and maintains a UPS backup for all lifesaving equipment in the hospital.

The university owns 4 state of the art ambulances and one dental van. All these ambulances are well equipped with various life support equipment and manned by qualified staff and can be used as both patient transport ambulances and emergency ambulances. The ambulances are always on standby to meet any contingency. As a part of its social initiative the ambulance charges are kept minimal with further discount for patients with minimalistic means of sustenance.

With a capacity to wash over 600 kg of linen per day the laundry facility at KVV is equipped with the latest automated machines. Multiple washers, water extractors and tumbler dryers ensure the linen is clean and totally disinfected. All these machines are connected to central boiler which uses steam for 100% disinfection of soiled linen. Three automated roll press ensure that all washed linen is crisply ironed. The laundry is also equipped with other utility equipment like 100 kg capacity weighing machine, hot press, overhead tanks and manual press. The automation is the laundry department has ensured a quick turnaround time of less than 8 hours from the time the linen is brought for washing to returning it to the respective departments.

The linen department that had a humble start over 3 decades ago has grown to a fully-fledged tailoring unit. The department is responsible for stitching uniforms for doctors, nurses, patients as well as all and sundry items for operation theatres. Apart from the major items stated above the unit also caters to adhoc requests from various departments of the university. The department also looks after stocking and issues of both disposable and reusable bed linen, bath linen to all wards and departments of the university.

One of the major responsibilities of the department is to minimize loss in stitching as well as while discarding unusable linen. Recycling old linen to an appropriate use also ensures revenue management.

Significant advances medical science and requirement of oxygen is various units in the hospital demands huge consumption of oxygen.

KVV has a 10,000 liter capacity central medical liquid oxygen tank. Currently 339 beds are connected to the central oxygen line of which 174 are ICU beds. Along with the central line 6 manifolds serve as a backup in case of any technical issues with the line. This arrangement cuts down on a lot of unnecessary movement of equipment and personnel as well as provides lifesaving gas without any delays.

The water requirement of a 53 acre campus is huge. Drinking water is acquired from various sources and collected at the water treatment plant which has a processing capacity of 75,000 liters / hour with storage capacity of 4,00,000 liters to meet the daily needs of soft and chlorinated water of the campus.

Regular tests are done to ensure adequate chlorination as well as regular cleaning and maintenance of the water tank and the distribution network ensures minimal waste of this precious commodity. Water samples from the end users are regularly sent to govt. laboratories to ensure acceptable levels of purification.

The sewage treatment plant at KVV uses the root zone technology to process a domestic flow of 300000 liters / day and the Effluent treatment plant processes 40,000 liter /day.

The 1000 KLD Sewage treatment plant and 100 KLD Effluent treatment plant have been at the forefront of ensuring environmental commitment at the university.

Even though the root zone technology is more complex than other process it ensures much better results. The filtering action of the soil bed, the action with fungi etc. and chemical action with certain existing or added inorganic chemicals help in finally obtaining clear and clean water. This water is then used for gardening across the vast expanses of lush green lawns, other plants and trees.

The Central Medical Stores plays a pivotal role in purchase, repairs and disposal of unwanted materials. The job responsibility of stores spans every department, constituent colleges and the hospital. All purchase made at KVV are routed through the CM store so as to streamline the process and keep accountability.

The Central Medical Stores is completely automated with cutting edge software for inventory management.

Right from capital purchases to consumables the stores handles all requirements very efficiently. Maintaining accurate inventory, placing orders and follow-ups, repairs to goods purchased, acquiring pre-printed stationary etc. is all in a day’s work. The store is also responsible for appropriate disposal of old, un-repairable material on a regular basis. The store boasts of over 3300 sq. ft. of ware house space.

The Pharmacy department deals with provisioning of all types of drugs and appliances for use in hospital wards and departments. It is under the supervision of Professor and Head of Department of Pharmacology.

The pharmacy is divided into two units for better accessibility for patient and relatives. A dedicated team equipped with latest software handles the daily operations of both these units. The pharmacy also has a Hospital Formulary Committee which includes all HOD’s of respective clinical departments which advises on additions and deletions the hospital formulary. All essential drugs are available in the pharmacy and provided at minimal prices.

The two units of the pharmacy are located at two different locations, the main unit is located near the OPD complex and the secondary one is near the wards. Both these locations have separate drug license authorized by Food and Drug Administration. All functions and working of the pharmacy is completely computerized and the pharmacy is open 24 * 7.

The Hospital kitchen serves hygienic food for patients and their relatives alike. A conscious decision not to outsource the kitchen helps maintain a strict quality and hygiene controls. The kitchen serves everything from early morning tea, breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner. There are separate specially demarcated areas for patients and staff to enjoy their meals.

Apart from the regular meals the kitchen also serves food items as mandated by our in-house dieticians which vary depending of the dietary needs of the patients. All meals served in the canteen are closely monitored by the dieticians for nutritional as well as palatable requirements.

The food served at our hospital kitchen is tasty, hygienic and prepared with almost care, no wonder many of the university staff love to have their office meals in the kitchen!!!

The mortuary in the hospital has a modern 4 unit freezer and is located at the far end of the hospital building with the Chief Medical Officer as its head.

The Mortuary is kept in lock and key 24 * 7. Mortuary is used for “brought dead patients”, patients whose relative need some time to claim the body or to keep brought dead patients from nearby hospitals who do not have a mortuary facility of their own. The mortuary has cold storage facility as well as checkup counter inside the room. The mortuary is regularly disinfected using chemicals to ensure 100% disinfection.
