A Distinguished Career in Medical Administration
Dr. Pravin H. Shingare is a retired Maharashtra state government officer who has worked on various posts right from Lecturer to Director.
Apart from his experience as professor and head of the Department of Anatomy, he has served one of the oldest government medical colleges in the country in the capacity of Vice Dean and Dean. During his Deanship of Grant Government Medical College & JJ Group of Hospitals Mumbai, he faced many challenges including the terrorist attack on Mumbai city. He successfully managed the JJ Hospital during various disasters like fires, local train accidents, flood situations, building collapses, and food poisoning.
After graduation from Government Medical College, Miraj, he completed his post-graduation from SRTR Government Medical College, Ambajogai. After a successful teaching career, he entered administration. He has served as Controller Of Examination of the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik, during which he was instrumental in conducting the first medical CET in the state of Maharashtra, setting the pattern for medical admissions in the state since 1999. He was an active member of the first medical post-graduation entrance exam (PG MCET) and the first Super Speciality entrance exam (MHSSET).
Since the beginning of his career, he aspired for higher posts, requiring him to resign from state government services to join KIMS, Karad. He was recalled by the government after 10 years on promotion. He left government service a second time for promotion to join the newly started MUHS, Nashik. Every promotion he earned was not due to seniority, but by open competition in the Maharashtra Public Service Commission.
He was the longest-serving Director of Medical Education and Research in the half-century history of the medical education department of the state government. During his directorship, he was instrumental in opening four new medical colleges and increasing more than one thousand MBBS seats in the state of Maharashtra.
Widespread Administrative Experience
During his long and distinguished career, he has worked in various capacities in Mumbai University; MUHS, Nashik; North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon; and Dr. D.Y. Patil Deemed University, Mumbai. He holds profound experience across roles such as Controller of Examination, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Senate Member, Management Council Member, Academic Council Member, Board of Examination Member, and Chairman of the Board of Studies.
He was an examiner at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. levels. He has worked as Chairman of the Medical Research Council of Maharashtra (MRCM), Member of the Maharashtra Medical Council, President of the Maharashtra Nursing Council, President of the Occupational and Physiotherapy Council of Maharashtra, Chairman of the Maharashtra Paramedical Council, and Member of the Inspection Committee of the Medical Council of India.
He was notably the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award by the SEW Association, Mumbai.
Current Engagements
Presently, he is also Medical Advisor to Symbiosis International Deemed University Pune, Member of the Board of Management of MGM Institute of Medical Sciences Navi Mumbai, Member of the Board of Management of Symbiosis International Deemed University Pune, Chairman of the Academic Committee for the College of Physician and Surgeon Mumbai, and Member of the Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre for Organ Donation Mumbai.
